HARBOR AREA : Hearing to Focus on 2 Commercial Projects

Share

The Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency will hold a public hearing today on the future of two commercial developments in San Pedro and Wilmington.

The Beacon Street Redevelopment Project, adopted by the City Council in 1964, is a plan to revitalize 60 acres of San Pedro’s commercial core.

In Wilmington, redevelopment efforts since 1974 have transformed an oil field into a 232-acre site known as the Wilmington Industrial Park. The area has 70 businesses employing more than 1,000 workers, said Marc Littman, an agency spokesman.

“The projects are ongoing, but under state legislation that became effective in January, public hearings must be held on what the game plan is and how much money is going to be spent over the next five years,” Littman said.

The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the second-floor boardroom of the Los Angeles Harbor Department, 425 S. Palos Verdes St., San Pedro.
