Los Angeles Daily News Hires New Chief: The newspaper, which has been looking for a buyer, has hired a new president and chief executive known for aggressively whipping money-losing newspapers into financial shape. Larry Beasley, 49, replaces James Lacher, who is leaving his post as executive vice president of the Woodland Hills-based paper. Lacher is moving east to help the Daily News’ owner, multimillionaire Jack Kent Cooke, build a new stadium in Laurel, Md., for the Cooke-owned Washington Redskins professional football team. For the past three years, Beasley has worked for Topeka, Kan.-based Stauffer Communications Inc. at the newspaper chain’s Florida operations.
