LOS ANGELES : Teachers, District Agree to Halt Talks for a Week
- Share via
After meeting for about three hours on Wednesday, negotiators for the Los Angeles Unified School District and the teachers union agreed to halt their contract talks for a week to give both sides time to explore some of the ideas floated during the past two days.
The contract negotiations, centering on United Teachers-Los Angeles’ demand for restoring a 10% cut in teacher salaries, are scheduled to resume Aug. 10. Board of Education President Mark Slavkin said the board will meet in closed session this morning for an update, and he and UTLA spokeswoman Catherine Carey said both sides expect to keep their promise not to talk publicly about the negotiations until some agreement is reached.
