LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Workshops on Reducing Quake Damage Offered

Free workshops offering tips on reducing property damage from an earthquake are being offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state Office of Emergency Services.

Workshops on non-structural mitigation measures, such as securing water heaters, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Crenshaw earthquake service center, 3420 W. Jefferson Blvd.; 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at 20525 Nordhoff St., Chatsworth; 10 a.m. Aug. 20 at 6939 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys; 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at 13750 Foothill Blvd., Sylmar, and 10 a.m. Aug. 27 at 552 Sespe Ave., Fillmore.

Workshops on strengthening rental units will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 28460 Stanford Ave., Valencia; 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sylmar location; 10 a.m. Aug. 20 in Fillmore; 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 23 at 6385 Hollywood Blvd., and 10 a.m. on Aug. 27 at 59 Tierra Rejada in Simi Valley.

Workshops for strengthening homes will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Crenshaw location; 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in Van Nuys; 10 a.m. Aug. 20 in Chatsworth; 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in Fillmore and 10 a.m. Aug. 27 in Sylmar.
