Needless Roadblocks Won’t Solve Building Issue

Share

* If one were to take the Silvers’ July 31 article criticizing the speeding up of the city development permits seriously, one would think that they had the answer to the Valley’s building problems.

The homeowners association of which they are members protested the construction of the building at the southeast corner of Ventura Boulevard and Woodman Avenue. The building permit was delayed. The owner of the property went into bankruptcy fighting City Hall for a permit to build, and the boarded-up stores have been in such disrepair that they resemble the worst blight in any commercial area of Los Angeles.

The “do-gooder” homeowners associations, by throwing unnecessary road blocks in front of Ventura Boulevard construction, have caused builders such expense that they either bankrupted the builder or cause the costs to go up so much that the project is not economically sound.
