‘Life With Mikey’
The main reason to see this 1993 release is for Michael J. Fox’s all-out performance as a former child TV star who peaked at 15 and now runs a third-rate kids’ talent agency. As Michael Chapman, Fox (right) has the haggard look of an actor who played out his childhood on television without ever having played it out in his own life. By doggedly running the talent agency with his brother (Nathan Lane) and their gum-popping secretary (Cyndi Lauper), Michael is, in a sense, trying to replay his childhood all over again--but this time from the driver’s seat. The film isn’t as syrupy as it might be, mostly due to a 10-year-old (Christina Vidal, left) who shows up as the answer to the agency’s dreams; she plays it spunky rather than twinkly (Showtime Monday at noon and 8 p.m.; Saturday at 4:45 p.m.).
