Mexican Storms Bring Light Rain

Forecasters say storms drifting up from the coast of Mexico brought unseasonably early rain to parts of Ventura County early Wednesday, although the precipitation is not expected to continue through the week.

Light rain fell sporadically between 4 and 7 a.m., bringing trace amounts to Ventura and slightly heavier amounts to the Conejo Valley.

“I don’t think anything was heavy enough to cause problems, except for slick pavement on the road,” said National Weather Service forecaster Bruce Entwistle.

Entwistle said the rain resulted from Mexican storms over Sonora and Baja that drifted over the Pacific Ocean and north up the California coast.

The same thundershowers that brought rain to Ventura County also moved onshore in Santa Barbara County and other Southern California coastal areas.

Usually, Entwistle said, it does not rain in Ventura County until late August or September.

“Every now and then storms drift far enough west (from the deserts and Mexico) to affect the Ventura County coastline,” he said.

Tonight’s forecast calls for mostly clear skies, with some patchy fog. Highs should be in the upper 70s along the coast and the lower 90s inland.
