A 39-year-old Santa Ana man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon while repairing a bicycle in the front yard of his parents’ home.

Police Sgt. Dick Faust said the shooting was gang-related and described the victim, Robert Corral Gonzalez, as “a known Santa Ana gang member.”

Gonzalez was confronted by the gunman about 1:10 p.m. at the home in the 1700 block of Lingan Lane, Faust said. Witnesses told police the gunman shot Gonzalez in the chest with a weapon that police later determined was a 9-millimeter handgun, Faust said. Gonzalez ran about 10 feet before collapsing.

The gunman then stood over Gonzalez and shot him several times in the back before fleeing, Faust said. The assailant is still at large.

Faust said investigators are trying to determine the motive for the attack.
