Micron Technology Files Petition Against South Korea: Micron’s petition, filed with the U.S. Trade Representative, charged that South Korean semiconductor companies compete unfairly with U.S. chip makers, according to Electronic Buyers’ News. Micron said in the petition that the South Korean government subsidizes its semiconductor companies, which gives the companies an unfair advantage in the U.S. market, the trade magazine said. “The combined effect of these programs has been to turn the Korean semiconductor industry into a formidable export machine,” Micron said in the petition. Korean computer chip companies account for 28% of all dynamic random access memory chips worldwide, with the United States being the largest market.
