SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Language Program at School Has Openings
- Share via
A few openings remain in the Capistrano Unified School District’s program that provides bilingual and literacy education for students from homes where Spanish or English is predominantly spoken.
District officials are seeking to fill the openings with kindergarten students from English-speaking families.
The Two-Way Language Immersion Program began last year. It is being offered at Las Palmas Elementary School, and has drawn some students from neighboring school districts.
The program guarantees that kindergartners--half from Spanish-speaking homes and half from English-speaking homes--will be bilingual and literate in both languages when they move on to middle school after the fifth grade.
Las Palmas Elementary School, which is on a year-round calendar schedule, started classes Aug. 1.
For more information, call Jody Wiencek, the program’s coordinator at Las Palmas Elementary School, at (714) 492-3456.
