American Home Products’ Deadline Passes: The company’s deadline for American Cyanamid Co. to accept a $100-a-share buyout passed without Cyanamid making a public response. Cyanamid failed by the close of business to publicly reply to American Home’s $9-billion bid, which American Home presented Monday in efforts to pressure Cyanamid into a quick merger agreement. The improved bid topped American Home’s Aug. 9 tender for Cyanamid, a Wayne, N.J.-based maker of drugs and chemicals, by $5 a share, or about $450 million.
