HARBOR AREA : LAPD Recruitment to Target Women
The Los Angeles Police Department plans a recruitment exposition in San Pedro on Saturday for harbor-area residents interested in becoming police officers.
Women are the focus of the department’s campaign, which has a goal of hiring more than 900 officers by June.
Only 15% of Los Angeles police officers are women, said department spokeswoman Theresa Adams Lopez. The City Council has directed that women constitute 43% of every new academy class, she said.
Under the recruitment campaign, meetings will be held in each of the LAPD’s 18 divisions.
Saturday’s meeting will be at San Pedro High School, 1001 W. 15th St., at 9 a.m. Written tests will be given at 10:30 a.m.
