Romance Is Up Their Alley

Share

Flowing dresses and unique, often antique, costume jewelry may draw a younger crowd to center’s new store.

Anew addition to The Alley in the Valley should lure daughters to come shopping with Mom, who, if she’s in the know, has been shopping the alley for some time.

Tres Chique II has moved into the space at the shopping area previously occupied by Options, which has moved across the alley to become a part of Dressed Up. And if that confuses you, don’t worry. Once you’re in the alley, it will be clear.

Tres Chique offers a younger, romantic look, as opposed to the older, elegant look that Mom prefers. Owners Eydie Urbaitel and Sherry Steinberg have stocked their boutique for the 16-to-40 crowd, and done so reasonably and selectively.

You’ll find a large portion of the inventory devoted to the Nostalgia label in dresses that so many young women love--and look great in. These romantic and flowing frocks are priced from $55 to $60. In many stores, the going rate is $75 to $80. For plus sizes, figure a bit more.

The Regine label is also very evident, and the price on these pieces is $59, not the $90 other stores charge. Matching Mommy & Me dresses from a well-known label generally command about $300; Steinberg & Urbaitel charge $98.

Lace stretch tops are hot these days, and Tres Chique II has them in about 30 colors for $18. Slinky acetate & Lycra separates are a fashion trend; you can buy the two pieces for $49.95.

Every age goes for the wonderful, appliqued Fader T-shirts for $30 to $35 instead of the regular price of $48. A great collection of vests is priced at $39 (retail $78). Sage is the predominant label.

A big plus at Tres Chique is their costume jewelry, on consignment from Shirley Wilson, who always looks for unusual pieces, antique and new. Original costume jewelry from the early 1900s is well priced, with brooches from $35 to $50. An Austrian crystal necklace, a replica of a Victorian piece, is $38. Lovely pins, reproductions handmade in France, are an affordable $36. The jewelry is a wonderful complement to the romantic mood of the apparel. And Tres Chique is a welcome addition to the alley.
