TARZANA : Residents Oppose Bid for Alcohol Permit

Share

Some residents are unhappy that a convenience store at Ventura Boulevard and Corbin Avenue is trying to get a city permit to sell beer and wine.

The Tarzana Property Owners Assn. is planning to oppose the application of 1 Stop Food Mart for a conditional use permit to sell alcoholic beverages when a city official reviews the application next month.

Association President Greg Nelson said he and other leaders of the group fear allowing the store to sell alcoholic beverages could lead to more crime and loitering in the area. Nelson said vagrants already drink, yell and throw bottles in the parking lot of a nearby bowling alley.

Granting 1 Stop’s permit “would create a further inducement for the gathering of troublemakers,” said Helen Norman, vice president of the association.

But store manager Davinder Singh said there weren’t any problems when the same owner operated a 7-Eleven that sold beer and wine on the same site.
