Duclos, Kim, Chen Olsen Qualify for Women’s Mid-Amateur

A trio of area players earned berths in the Women’s U.S. Mid-Amateur during a qualifying event held Friday at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana.

Jody Duclos of Moorpark led the way with a seven-over-par 79 to finish in a two-way tie for fifth. Duclos, who was one of only six players to break 80, was runner-up in the 1993 Women’s State Amateur championship.

Also advancing were Sylvia Kim of Chatsworth (81) and Linda Chen Olsen of Granada Hills (83). The field of 54 was playing for 18 available berths.

The Mid-Amateur is Sept. 10-15 at Tacoma Golf and Country Club in Tacoma, Wash. The Mid-Amateur is open to players 25 and older.

Chen Olsen hit a ball out of bounds on the first hole, but survived a three-way playoff to land one of the final two spots.

Caryn Wilson of Rancho Mirage was the medalist with a 76. Chen Olsen and Duclos each played in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship last week in Virginia.
