Don’t worry. Despite how it looks, the drivers of these cars on the Pomona Track at the L.A. County Fairgrounds walked away uninjured. OK, maybe there were some bumps and bruises. But the fact is, a combination of luck, driving expertise and National Hot Rod Assn. (NHRA) safety regulations combine to make race-car driving less of a drag. And the NHRA has an emergency unit--the safety safari--that is quick to put out any fires. With cars commanding 5,000 in horsepower and able to reach 300 m.p.h., accidents are bound to happen. But at least these drivers walked away from it all.
