MISSION VIEJO : Saddleback District OKs 9% Budget Jump
The Saddleback Community College District board has approved a $71.7-million operating budget for the new fiscal year, which began July 1.
The budget is a 9% jump over the previous year. Trustees unanimously approved the spending plan during their Monday meeting.
Much of the budget increase can be attributed to $3.7 million the college district received in delinquent local property tax revenue dating back to 1992, district spokeswoman Diane Riopka said.
Riopka said the money was a one-time-only lump sum of “catch-up” funds that the district will not receive next year.
“Next year, we’ve been told that this would no longer apply,” Riopka said.
The $71.7-million budget covers day-to-day operations of the college district and doesn’t include capital outlay expenditures.
