LOS ANGELES : City Council OKs 7% Pay Raise for Firefighters
The Los Angeles City Council approved a new labor agreement Tuesday with firefighters and fire captains, who will receive a 7% pay hike over two years and a one-time $500 uniform bonus.
Previously, the council had agreed to grant the same salary increase that police officers will receive. The council later approved a 7% raise for officers this year and next.
Firefighters and fire captains will receive increases of 2% retroactive to July 1, another 2% on Jan. 1, 1.5% next July and another 1.5% on Jan. 1, 1996.
Like police and other city employees, firefighters had worked without a raise for the last two years.
