WEST VALLEY : Kahn Supported by Police, Firefighters

Share

A statewide law enforcement association and local police and firefighter groups have endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Doug Kahn after Republican incumbent Carlos Moorhead voted against the federal crime bill.

The Peace Officers Research Assn. of California (PORAC) join the Pasadena Police Officers’ Assn. and Burbank and Pasadena firefighters in support of Kahn, who is challenging Moorhead (R-Glendale) for his seat in the 27th District, which stretches from the San Fernando Valley to San Marino.

The crime bill passed by the House of Representatives Sunday included several million dollars for Southland police departments. It would also ban assault rifles.

Kahn said Moorhead caved in to pressure from the National Rifle Assn. by voting for an amendment that would have removed the assault weapons ban from the bill.

Aides to Moorhead said he voted against the crime bill Sunday because of its heavy spending on social programs and restrictions on the right to bear arms. They noted that Moorhead historically has been endorsed by law enforcement agencies in his 22 years in Congress.
