A 55-year-old Anaheim man died Wednesday when his utility vehicle flipped over several times on the Golden State Freeway, smashing in the driver’s side of the vehicle, police said.

The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was heading north shortly before 10 a.m. in the right lane, just north of the Hollywood Freeway, when he decided to switch lanes, said Officer Rich Obregon of the California Highway Patrol.

At the same time, a vehicle from the fast lane was also trying to switch to the middle lane. The two cars did not collide, Obregon said, but the drivers saw each other and pulled quickly back into their original lanes.

However, the man in the utility vehicle pulled back too hard, sending the car into a spin, Obregon said. The car flipped over more than three times and slid on its rooftop to a stop, he added.

Obregon said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two children in the car--the man’s 12-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old boy--suffered minor injuries and were released from area hospitals, Obregon said.
