County Weighs AIDS Education Grants

Share

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors today will consider two AIDS education contracts focusing on Latinas of childbearing age and young gay men.

El Concilio del Condado de Ventura, a local Latino organization, would be awarded $31,900 to provide AIDS education services to the Latino community, emphasizing young women, under the proposed contract.

Robert Collins, an AIDS educator at the Gay and Lesbian Resource Center, would be awarded $41,000 to provide AIDS prevention services to gay and bisexual men, primarily those who are young.

Both contracts are part of a master funding plan for state-supported AIDS education, testing and case management, which was approved by the board last week.

The plan combines four separate programs under one $423,000 grant from the state Department of Health Services.
