A teen-ager died early Monday after he was shot during an apparent drug transaction, police said.

Eduardo Castenada, 18, of Santa Ana was gunned down at 2:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Walnut, said Lt. Bob Helton. Castenada was shot once in the chest with a small-caliber weapon, he added.

There were no witnesses to the shooting, but police theorize Castenada walked up to a car that had pulled up to the curb and began negotiating a drug deal with the occupants, Helton said.

Somebody in the car fired one shot at the victim, who ran across the street, collapsed and died. Information about the car and its occupants is sketchy, but police are looking for a light-colored vehicle, described by people who heard shots and saw a vehicle speed away, police said.
