The mere suggestion to sell some of the collection from the Natural History Museum is astonishing (Aug. 16). Scientists are asked to put a price on knowledge and history--on their research, hard work and lifetime efforts. I don’t even think it’s possible. Someday, when the future scientists are digging up Los Angeles, it won’t take too long--all they will uncover is the collapse of civilization and how it all ended with greed. So much for history! The reason you have museums is to preserve and learn, not destroy and forget. I wonder how much the “Mona Lisa” is going for these days?
