Jobs on Merit

I’ll buy Prof. Melvin L. Oliver’s argument that jobs in the Postal Service should be awarded on the basis of merit (“Blacks Aren’t Hogging Postal Service Jobs,” Commentary, Aug. 12), if he will buy my argument that all jobs, both in the public and the private sector, should also be awarded on the basis of merit.
