Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., blaming soaring natural rubber costs, said it will raise replacement tire prices 2% to 4.5% in October, a move other tire makers are likely to follow. . . . Hewlett-Packard Co. and Canon Computer Systems Inc., the world’s biggest manufacturers of printers used with computers, said they cut prices on various models as much as 30%. . . . Mazda Motor of America said prices of its MX-3 sports coupe, Miata roadster, 929 luxury sedan and MPV minivan will be increased by an average 1.9%, or $413, for 1995, over final 1994 prices. . . . General Motors Corp.’s Saturn unit, seeking to put to rest speculation earlier this year that its growth had stalled, said its U.S. car sales nearly doubled during August over the year-earlier period.

Roche Holding, the Swiss pharmaceuticals and chemical company, said its $24-a-share offer for Syntex Corp. was completed, with 96% of the shares tendered. . . . Medical Care America Inc. shareholders approved the company’s $1.1-billion merger with Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. . . . Brock Candy Co. said it agreed to be bought by closely held candy maker E.J. Brach Corp. for $20 a share, or about $140 million. . . . Fleet Mortgage Group, a unit of Fleet Financial Group, said it bought the right to service $5.9 billion in mortgages from Countrywide Funding Corp. . . . Investment funds controlled by New York investor Mario Gabelli lifted their stake in Santa Anita Realty Enterprises Inc. to 9.41% of the company’s 11.3 million outstanding shares.

America West and Continental announced plans to expand their destinations by sharing space for passengers on some of their flights. . . . Lord Day & Lord, Barrett Smith, one of the nation’s oldest law firms, announced that it will cease operations by the end of the month.
