Moammar Kadafi, watching a parade of tanks rumble past, marked 25 years in power Thursday with slogans condemning the United States and the U.N. sanctions against Libya.

Kadafi, 52, waved and clasped his hands above his head as soldiers from the Green Revolutionary Army chanted about his “Fatah” revolution, meaning the “opening” in Arabic.

While the parade crowd cheered Kadafi, some complained that the U.N. ban on flights into and out of Libya was making life difficult. Merchants also offered little enthusiasm for celebrating 25 years of Kadafi’s rule.
