Cornerback Darryl Henley said he will be at Rams Park today and intends to re-sign a one-year, $350,000 contract with the team.

Henley was cut by the Rams in August because bail restrictions from a federal drug trafficking indictment limited his traveling with the team.

But a ruling by a federal judge on Friday lifted the travel restriction, and Henley will meet with Ram President John Shaw and Coach Chuck Knox with the intention of signing a one-year deal.

“I haven’t talked to Darryl or the Rams today,” said Marvin Demoff, Henley’s agent. “Our understanding Friday was that they were going to sign him Monday or Tuesday.”

U.S. District Judge Gary L. Taylor on Friday sided with Henley’s attorneys and dropped a provision from his bail that a U.S. marshal or pretrial services agency officer accompany Henley on the road, if $2 million in bail was posted and Henley came up with an additional $200,000 cash deposit.

Henley, in his sixth year with the team, signed a one-year, $350,000 deal with the team in August, but was assured his travel would not be restricted.

But his bail terms prohibited him from leaving the Central District of California, which includes Orange and Los Angeles counties, without approval.

Henley’s attorneys petitioned the court to allow him to travel outside the district, but Taylor allowed him to do so only if Henley, or a “responsible third party” such as the Rams, could come up with $1 million in bail.

Taylor also ordered that a U.S. marshal or pretrial services officer accompany Henley on the road games, to make sure he didn’t flee. Team officials opposed the escort, saying it would be a distraction to the team.

Henley didn’t travel to the Rams’ final exhibition game, Aug. 25 at San Diego, and was cut by the team three days later.

Re-signing Henley would give the Rams an extra defensive back for their first road game of the regular season, Sunday at Atlanta.
