Housing Completions Decline: The number of new homes finished and ready for occupancy fell for a second straight month in July, adding to signs that housing activity is leveling off, the Commerce Department said. Completions fell 4.4% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.27 million after a revised drop of 7.8% in June, previously reported as an 8.2% decline. The government’s monthly measure of housing completions is not as closely watched as its report on construction starts, but it is useful as a monitor of overall activity in the home building industry.
