Hollywood Sign

Share

* Jeers to the members of the Hollywood Sign Trust (Aug. 24). They are missing a good bet. In the article describing the increased security measures being taken to protect the sign is a mention of the fact that most people coming up to the sign are simply curious tourists, not vandals, and that the “path” which seems to beckon them up to the sign is going to be planted over.

What a waste--for everyone! Why not simply improve the path, put a gate across it and charge admission. They could also install an information and gift booth at the top. This way they could earn money for upkeep and maintenance and to pacify any grumbly homeowners who feel their privacy is being challenged.

This way they could enhance both the fame of the sign and of Hollywood itself.
