Strike Hurt Nigerian Oil Production: Crude oil production in Nigeria fell about 330,000 barrels a day last month because of the unsuccessful strike by oil workers seeking democracy, according to the International Energy Agency. The Paris-based agency, an arm of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, estimated that the West African nation pumped 1.5 million barrels a day in August during the strike, which was launched to force the military government of Gen. Sani Abacha to surrender power to Moshood K.O. Abiola, the man widely believed to have won the annulled 1993 presidential election. Nigeria pumped 1.83 million barrels a day in July and 1.94 million in June before the walkout, which ended Monday.
