MCI Cable Mishap Cuts Phone Service

Share

Telephone service for tens of thousands of MCI customers was knocked out for more than eight hours Wednesday when a construction crew working near Sacramento cut a cable carrying long-distance calls, a company spokesman said.

A crew drilling in a Southern Pacific rail yard outside Sacramento cut the fiber-optic cable about 8:30 a.m., said MCI spokesman Les Kumagai. Service was restored shortly before 5 p.m., he said.
