The semi-Zeppelin reunion of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant for the MTV “Unledded” special and companion album will include not only material from their past recorded at two recent London TV studio performances, but two new songs taped in Morocco and radical reworkings of “Nobody’s Fault but Mine and “When the Levee Breaks” recorded in Wales. The MTV show debuts Oct. 12 and the album, titled “No Quarter--Jimmy Page & Robert Plant--Unledded,” is due in stores Nov. 8. . . .

Dr. Dre’s past has been collected--without the rapper-producer’s participation--on “Concrete Roots,” an anthology that runs from mid-’80s sessions when he was a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru’ to late-’80s work with N.W.A. Also featured are Dre productions for the D.O.C. and Michel’le. . . .

Dead Can Dance is set to release a live CD and film, both titled “Toward the Within,” on Oct. 25. The music was recorded last year at the Mayfair Theatre in Santa Monica, with interview segments also added for the film, which will be screened Sept. 27, 29 and 30 at the Center Green Theatre as part of 4AD Records’ “All Virgos Are Mad” festival. The festival also features performances by such 4AD acts as Throwing Muses, Kristin Hersh, Kendra Smith and His Name Is Alive at McCabe’s (acoustic) and the Troubadour (electric).

Scheduled for November is the latest from rapper Too Short, who, judging by the title (which we are unable to print), is still trading in raunchy sexual boasts. . . .

Pre-punk alternative-pop legend Big Star is set to make its first-ever L.A. appearance at the House of Blues on Nov. 1, following a homecoming show in Memphis on Oct. 29 and a performance on the “Tonight Show” on Oct. 30--making up for a date that was canceled in June due to band illness. . . .

Rhino Records has acquired all of Robyn Hitchcock’s pre-A&M; solo catalogue, and will begin releasing it with three albums in November. “You and Oblivion,” a collection of rarities and unreleased tracks, is also planned. . . . Matthew Sweet will begin working this month in Atlanta with producer Brendan O’Brien, best known for his work with Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots. The album is due in February.
