AND ONE MORE THING: The fur is flying among some Nirvana fans and associates over a poster campaign proposed by the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization featuring a picture of the late Kurt Cobain with the words, “I Wouldn’t Be Caught Dead in Fur.” A similar poster is proposed to feature the late actor, River Phoenix, a long-time PETA supporter.

Dan Matthews, PETA’s director of international campaigns, says that organization activist Chrissie Hynde has agreed to approach Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, for permission to use the Nirvana leader’s image. Matthews acknowledges some calls from fans protesting the plan as being in “poor taste” since word leaked out recently, but says there have also been calls in support.

“We’re talking about two individuals (Cobain and Phoenix) who were very irreverent,” Matthews says. “And certainly the generation they reached share an irreverent sense of humor and see this as something to keep that spirit alive.”
