A summary of selected Los Angeles City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

* POLICE DONATION--Accepted a donation of about $275,000 worth of office furniture from Hughes Aircraft to the Police Department for use at the new police training facility in Westchester.

* TASTE OF BRENTWOOD--Approved the closure of San Vicente Boulevard from Bringham Avenue to Darlington Avenue on Oct. 16 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. because of the Great Tastes of Brentwood fair. The event will feature 25 restaurants from Brentwood offering small plates of their cuisine for $1 to $5.

BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS

* FILM PREMIERES--Approved the temporary closure of the curb lane in front of Mann’s Bruin Theater at 950 Broxton Ave. in Westwood from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday for the premiere of the movie “The Burning Season.”

HOW THEY VOTED

* AIDS HOUSING FUNDS--Authorized the controller to accept a $9.2-million federal grant to be used for the Housing Opportunities With Aids program, which helps low-income and homeless people who are HIV-positive or who have AIDS get housing for themselves and their families. The money will be spent for such things as rent, mortgage and utility assistance ($2.5 million); housing development ($1 million); administrative expenses ($900,000); and emergency hotel, motel and meal vouchers ($150,000). Passed 12-0. Voting yes: John Ferraro, Marvin Braude, Zev Yaroslavsky, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Nate Holden, Jackie Goldberg. Absent: Ruth Galanter.
