UCLA Seniors Greenwood, Kennedy Likely Out Remainder of the Season

Two UCLA seniors suffered season-ending injuries during the third quarter of Saturday’s 17-10 victory over Southern Methodist.

Cornerback Carl Greenwood, regarded as one of the best in the country at his position and a potential high NFL draft pick, was operated on Sunday for a broken right ankle. He might return if the Bruins play in a bowl game.

Right tackle Paul Kennedy, who was a reserve for three seasons before finally getting a chance to start, suffered torn knee ligaments that have effectively ended his career.

Kennedy was in for all 78 plays of the Bruins’ season-opening victory over Tennessee, more than he had played in three seasons. He played every down Saturday before being injured.

Greenwood was replaced by sophomore Andy Colbert at cornerback, with freshman Javelin Guidry also getting playing time. Chad Overhauser replaced Kennedy and is the only reserve offensive lineman to play this season.
