An elderly Ventura woman who was killed in a traffic accident near Mugu Rock while being shuttled home from an Alaskan cruise has been identified as Virginia Lorraine Danford.

Danford, 75, was killed in a multi-car accident Saturday night that stopped traffic on Pacific Coast Highway for about two hours.

She and her friend, 75-year-old Grace Toy of Ventura, were passengers in a car operated by a local shuttle service that had picked them up at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said the two had taken a flight from Vancouver, British Columbia, after a 10-day Alaskan cruise.

The accident occurred when a van traveling south on Pacific Coast Highway spun out of control and careened into their northbound car, which in turn was struck by another northbound vehicle, Officer Brian DeMattia of the California Highway Patrol said.

Toy, who was taken to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, was reported in fair condition Monday night.
