David D. Garber, a city resident who was killed in the crash of a USAir jet near Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sept. 6, was remembered during a brief ceremony that opened Monday’s City Council meeting.

In a solemn opening to the meeting, Mayor Richard Partin praised Garber, a two-term member of the city Traffic Commission, for his service to the city, and said residents mourned his loss.

Garber was one of 132 people who perished when the aircraft suddenly plummeted to earth a few miles from the airport.

Garber, who was first appointed to the commission in 1987, showed a special interest in creating and maintaining city bicycle trails, Partin said.

“God bless you, David,” Partin said. “We’re going to miss you.”
