ULTRA SAVINGS: What would happen if the 4.4 million people who visit Anaheim Stadium and the city’s Convention Center each year were using low-flush toilets in their restrooms? The city would save about 23 million gallons of water a year, officials say. And that should happen soon. . . . Anaheim has received $126,000 in government grants to install 1,070 environmentally correct ultra-low-flush toilets and urinals at the two venues.

WHAT DAY TO DANCE: The Suede Restaurant and Billiards in the Tustin Square Shopping Center in Orange had a tough sell to the city Planning Commission--dancing and live music. Owner Mehdi Rafaty got his way, if he restricts it all to weekends. So he’s pleading with the City Council tonight to let the music run weekdays, too. . . . Explains Rafaty: “Some of the more talented entertainers are not willing to perform in smaller locations, such as ours, on the weekends.” . . . . The Planning Commission’s response: pool, drinking and dancing don’t always mix that well.

PARTY MUSIC: You can understand why members of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra are partying tonight: Their new compact disc--the orchestra’s first recording in eight years--is going on sale. Included are two works by Frank Ticheli, who is in his third season as the orchestra’s composer-in-residence. . . . The party begins at 7 tonight at Virgin Megastore at Costa Mesa’s Triangle Square. And yes, Ticheli and others will be on hand to sign your copy if you buy one.

OCEAN VIEW: The famous Fontainebleau Hilton in Miami Beach marked the turnaround point for the national offshore boat championship Sunday. But Matt Alcone of Laguna Beach and Jerry Gilbreath of Santa Ana barely saw it--they passed by at 115 m.p.h. fighting three-foot swells. Alcone drove and Gilbreath worked the throttle in the 2,000-horsepower catamaran Gilbreath designed. “It was only our second race,” says Alcone. “A lot of national champions were left shaking their heads.”
