Workers at GM Plant OK Strike: Workers have authorized a strike at a Toledo factory that builds transmissions for 11 U.S. assembly plants and five foreign plants. But the union says it hopes to settle its complaints without a walkout. The 2,596-to-106 vote authorizes union leaders at General Motors Corp.’s Powertrain Plant to order a strike. It is still too early to talk about a walkout, said Oscar Bunch, president of United Auto Workers Local 14. UAW international leaders in Detroit must sanction a strike if negotiations fail to resolve the dispute.
