A teen-age driver was killed Thursday when he ran a stop sign and was struck by a truck, critically injuring one passenger and causing another, a pregnant woman, to go into labor, authorities said.

The 18-year-old driver was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he died, investigators said. He was driving south on 90th Street West with a carload of friends when he failed to stop at the intersection with Avenue I about 1 p.m., authorities said.

He sustained severe head injuries when he crashed through the windshield, said Officer Kerri Hawkins of the California Highway Patrol.

Passengers in the car included Irene Hall, 26, of Rosamond, who was nine months pregnant. Hall, who suffered minor injuries, underwent an emergency Cesarean section at Antelope Valley Hospital, where she was reported in fair condition. A hospital spokeswoman would not discuss the baby’s condition.

Another passenger, Christina Mulalley, 16, was listed in critical condition at Antelope Valley Hospital with a possible fractured pelvis and a damaged liver. Jannelle Schaller, 18, was taken to Lancaster Community Hospital with a skull fracture and fractured pelvis, and Brad Phipps, 16, was taken to Lancaster Community Hospital with a fractured pelvis, said CHP Officer Rick Chisham. All are from Rosamond.

The driver of the pickup truck, Esfandiar Kadivar, 52, of Lancaster, was not injured or arrested.
