VENTURA : Playground Put Off for Lack of Funds

Share

Short of money to buy lumber and other supplies, the group raising funds to build a community playground at Blanche Reynolds School in midtown Ventura has postponed its construction date from November until early March.

Organizers for the planned Rainbow Bridge Community Playground, which will be built at the school but open to the public, said they have raised more than $40,000 in cash and materials but need $60,000 more.

The postponement will give organizers more time to hold fund-raisers and apply for corporate grants, Blanche Reynolds teacher Lisa Hall said.

“It just gives us a little more time,” Hall said. “Now we feel like a burden has been lifted off our shoulders.”

As envisioned, a corps of 1,500 parents, teachers and other volunteers will build the playground by hand over five days.
