CAMARILLO : City May Require Home Landscaping

Share

In an effort to rid the city of unkempt yards, the Camarillo Planning Commission tonight will consider amending the city’s zoning ordinance to require homeowners to landscape their front and side yards and install irrigation systems.

If passed, the amendment would give homeowners a year to install the landscaping and irrigation systems or face fines.

The amendment must also be approved by the City Council before it can take effect.

“We don’t have a major problem, but we don’t want what problems we do have to get out of hand,” said acting City Manager Larry Davis. “We see this as a proactive approach.”

Planning Commission Chairman Les Meredith refused to comment on the issue until after hearing a staff presentation. Other commission members also declined to comment Monday.

The commission will consider the issue at its 7:30 p.m. meeting today at City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.
