OXNARD : Volunteers Sought for Tourism Center

Share

Volunteers are being sought to greet visitors who stop by the Oxnard tourism bureau’s new office at the Oxnard Factory Outlet.

Carol Lavender, executive director of the tourism bureau, said she is looking for as many as 60 people to work in the center providing information to those who stop in.

“It is a responsible position,” Lavender said. “And it gives the volunteers a chance to meet the public and be helpful in a number of different situations.”

Lavender said the volunteers would work about four hours at a time at the factory outlet office, which she said attracted more than 5,000 people in June, the month it opened.

“They pretty much act as an ambassador to Oxnard by giving people the information they are requesting about the area, where to shop or where to stay while they’re visiting,” she said of the volunteers.

Without an increase in the number of volunteers at the tourism center, the center may have to cut its hours of operation, Lavender said.

Currently the office is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week. For more information or to volunteer, call 385-7545.
