COLLEGE ROUNDUP : SCC Men’s Soccer Beats San Diego State

Southern California College, despite being severely out-shot, upset San Diego State, 1-0, in a men’s soccer game Monday in San Diego. Southern California is an NAIA team and San Diego State is a Division I program.

Kevin Villar scored the only goal on a penalty kick with about 10 minutes left. Villar is a sophomore from Tustin High and Orange Coast. His goal was one of four shots SCC took. San Diego State was much more active around the net, getting 20 shots.

Brent Rogers had eight saves for SCC (3-3). Bret Weaver had no saves for San Diego State (4-2).

In other nonconference men’s soccer:

Chapman 5, California Lutheran 4 (OT)--Jason Hespedales scored with two minutes left in overtime for visiting Chapman (4-1-1). Armando Orizaba had two goals for Chapman, which trailed at the half, 2-0.

Concordia 3, Caltech 0--Freshman Chris Kneip scored three goals for visiting Concordia (3-1-1).

In California Coastal Conference men’s soccer:

Pacific Christian 4, Cal Maritime 3--Ryan Bean scored three goals and Bryce Ginther scored one for Pacific Christian (5-0). Adrian Siebeinhaar scored three goals, two on penalty kicks, for Cal Maritime (0-3).
