Magma Power Shares Soar on Acquisition Offer: San Diego-based Magma Power Co. shares soared 27% after competitor California Energy Co. offered $35 a share, or $840 million, to acquire Magma and combine the two biggest companies in the geothermal power industry. Magma said it will consider the cash-and-stock offer, but it didn’t say when it will respond to it. Magma’s board was scheduled to meet Tuesday. The company’s shares closed $7.25 higher at $34.75. California Energy shares were unchanged at $16.875.
