CAMARILLO : Commission OKs Landscaping Law
Seeking to rid the city of blight, the Camarillo Planning Commission has approved an amendment to the city’s zoning ordinance that will require homeowners to landscape and provide lawn irrigation.
Voting 3 to 1 during its meeting Tuesday, the commission decided to give residential property owners up to a year to install landscaping on their front and side lawns.
Commissioner William Liebmann cast the dissenting vote. Commissioner Ed Miller was absent.
“What we’re saying is that you have to have some kind of landscaping,” said Commission Chairman Les Meredith. “You can’t just have a dirt patch.”
Meredith said the amendment’s requirement for an irrigation system simply means that the homeowner has to have either an automatic sprinkler system or some other means of making sure the landscaping is kept green.
“That could be a $5 sprinkler you get from the hardware store or a complete underground automated system,” Meredith said.
The amendment must go before the City Council for final approval.
