SHE’S IN: White House press secretary--and Valencia native--Dee Dee Myers emerged a winner in a Clinton staff shake-up (A1). But if you were confused over conflicting news reports about her status, you were in good company. Until Friday afternoon, even her family couldn’t figure it out. . . . NO ON 187: Organizers are hoping for a big crowd in Pacoima today at a march against Proposition 187, the ballot proposal that would restrict health and educational services to illegal immigrants (B2). . . . The proposition is a “tool for the persecution of fellow Americans,” says Franco Fernandez-Rua, a march organizer who works with the Campaign for Human Rights.

Columnist Bill Boyarsky (A17) reflects on the incident, writing about the competition that “makes the media monster constantly hungry for more news.”

NEW LIFE: The Rev. Roger Barkley, the new pastor at the Congregational Church of Northridge, gave up money for the ministry. Yet his new faith has served him well in coping with his wife’s cancer (B9). . . . Barkley has a good voice. Must be something in that name. The other Roger Barkley--KABC’s morning host--has a pretty good voice, too.

RISING ON RADIO: Speaking of A.M. air waves, look who’s moving up in the world--Kevin and Bean on KROQ-FM (106.7) in Burbank. Their show was ranked ninth in the latest Arbitron ratings, a far cry from their embarrassing early days (F1) . . . . “I think you get a lot of points in this town for just staying on the air,” says Gene (Bean) Baxter.
