Protection Denied for Another Salmon Species

WASHINGTON —
Government fish experts decided Friday against adding another Northwest salmon species to the U.S. list of threatened fish, finding that it is not a distinct population eligible for federal protection.
The mid-Columbia River summer chinook salmon’s numbers are declining, but it is not faced with extinction, officials for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
