MTI Technology Corp.: The Anaheim-based company has sued CMD Technology Inc., alleging that its Irvine-based rival has infringed on six patents that MTI holds on processes used to store data on computer disks.

In the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose on Friday, MTI seeks an unspecified amount of damages. MTI President Steve Hamerslag said the company will base the amount it seeks on how many products CMD has sold through alleged use of the disputed technology. MTI also seeks an injunction to stop CMD from making or selling the products.

Bob Rudy, CMD vice president, said his company is “absolutely certain” that it doesn’t infringe on MTI’s patents.

The patents at issue involve a technology known as Redundant Array of Independent Disks, which helps protect stored computer data.
