Violence
Harold Schecter (Commentary, Sept. 16) compares a recent hyper-violent moviewith the Bayeux tapestry, to make the point that violence has provided entertainment through the ages.
It may be true that Hollywood movie makers and the medieval Norman were both inspired by soaring ambition fand ruthless greed. But there are important differences. The battle of Hastings was real; violence is bogus. And William was a conqueror; movie makers (and writers) who explicit violence are just hucksters.
